Watercolour My World / Kenzo

Kenzo was one of the first labels that created a bridge between two of the world's major fashion capitals. Kenzo Takada came from Tokyo to Paris in the 60s and started a dialogue between the two drastically different societies. Today, this dialogue is still alive and kicking, but things are taking on a fresh and modern turn under the art direction of Antonio Marras. Browsing through this collection, something definitely caught my eye. There was a very European cut to the clothes, mixed with the luscious colours and patterns of the Japanese. I have always loved the softness of the Japanese culture, and I especially love that Kenzo has brought this feeling to something that is fully wearable.

These three suits are the embodiment of European and Japanese fusion. The suit is a classic of European fashion, and Kenzo has combined this staple with the soft and vividness of Japanese watercolour. I especially enjoy the suit on the right. I'm fully enjoying a guy who is able to white things out this season, and the soft blue watercolour running up asymmetrically adds another depth to the look.

These two looks are definitely another European cut. The jaggedness of the pattern on the shirt to the left screams Japanese to me. And the material that the jacket on the right is made from really brings me back to olden-day Japan.

Once again, CHUNKY sweaters. I especially love the retro designs that both of these looks sport, and I love that a cardigan is being worn over top of a sweater.

Every collection has it's mishap, and this is the one for Kenzo. I think the French look that Marras was going for might have been taken a little too literally. And stripes... I've never been a fan of them, and I doubt I ever will!

Not Just For The Ladies: Marc by Marc Jacobs

Marc Jacobs. What's the first thing I think of when it comes to him? YUM! And I'm not talking about his clothes. But... I guess I could also be talking about his clothes? I find Marc's take on things interesting... He's able to keep things conservative, while also taking it to the extreme. And he often does so without any clean line dividing the two. I can't wait to see what he's going to bring us this year! In the meantime... Here are a few of my favourites from his 2010 collections.

Marc is not one to shy away from throwing in a splash of colour... Or should I say 'splashes' of colour. Nor is he one to say no to a fun pattern. Just by glancing at these four looks, it's really easy to see just how diverse his style is. He can rock everything from a nicely tailored suit (worn in a casual way, naturally) to shorts with sock and shoes... The last is a look not to be worn lightly. Or without knowledge of how to pull it off. Ever. I give Marc two thumbs up, however!

Here are a couple of looks from the more casual end of the spectrum. Both would be excellent on a hot summer's day. The shorts on the left really show Marc's fearless attitude. No one else would be able to bring such a retro--and I might add fugly--pattern to high fashion and pull it off. Marc seems to do so effortlessly... Again and again! Oh! And on the right is a sleeveless CHUNKY sweater. Yes please!!!

Wanna dress it up a little bit more? No sweat! While the look on the left would moreso be worn on a day-to-day basis, the look on the right could be worn to a more dressy event. Or, you could wear it just because. Either way, Marc shows that he's not all play. He works for his meals. And he works hard!... Gimme a moment!

I'm a sucker for a nice cardigan. These three looks show the diversity of this kind of sweater... We go from casual, to semi-formal, to formal, respectively. I also need to add that I LOVE the cardigan on the left. I'm sure I could name a few people who would call it a 'grandpa sweater'... Let me just say that I would KILL for a grandpa who was that stylish!

WWKD: Part Two

This week on The City, Kelly Cutrone let Whitney Port have it! As if we need anymore reason to be scared shitless of Kel. I love her to death, but when she gets going, she's one scary-ass bitch! Anyways, she didn't get much face-time... Actually, she did but that shit wasn't okay for TV audiences. The crew at MTV had to edit about 99.9% of what Kelly actually said to Whitney because it would have burned the souls out of everyone in North America. What we did catch, however, was legendary.

And now it's time for 'Quotes by Kelly: Part Two':

'Don't play the guilt card... It's a time-consumer.' -- How is it that Kelly always knows what to say to kick my blaming ass back on track?

'I don't need to defend my agency against a girl who wears pink... It's just a waste of my time.' --Girls who wear pink... Enough said

'Bye Whitney. Leave my office now.'

If Kelly said those words to me, I would shit myself. Okay, so I wouldn't shit myself right there because then she'd have a reason to bite my head off--literally... But I'd book it out of her office and then shit myself.

Kelis / Brave

Brave is one of Kelis' singles from her new album Flesh Tone. Okay, so all of the gays are rolling their eyes saying, 'I heard this song MONTHS ago', while doing their hair with one hand and inhaling a gin and tonic (a stiff one, naturally) with the other one... All while calling everyone they know to find something to keep them busy for the evening. But for me, I'm only hearing this song now. And I'm in love. So maybe I'm not the biggest Kelis fan... Hell, I still think of of milkshakes and boys when I hear her name. That being said, I can still appreciate some good dance music. Throw in some Benny B. and we're set! Give it a listen here.

Visuals Galore: Issey Miyake

By far one of the more creative collections from this season came from Dai Fujiwara under the label Issey Miyake. Fujiwara brought patterns after patterns to the runway. There didn't seem to be any logical combinations present, and that was one of the most appealing things about the show. It was messy, illogical, and eye-catching!

Here comes the extreme! Normally, I'd be totally against anything this messy. Here, I can't help but sit back and enjoy it. There's a sense of tranquility to the chaos that Fujiwara has thrown together in these three looks. We're definitely seeing a plaid fetish in full force! Notice the plaid patches thrown onto the toe of the shoes on the left... Definitely plaid gone overboard, but in a good way! Or at least a fun way...

Double the pleasure, double the fun! Cute fashionista by day, rugged Jedi by night. I can't see the peaked-hood look hitting the streets anything soon, but the colours that Fujiwara uses definitely will be. Pastels are huge right now and have been for a while, and this look is no exception. The angular texture of the Jedi hood is exquisite, as well.

Another hooded look... More Sith than Jedi, however. Also more likely to hit the streets soon. The detailing around the lapel is amazing. Very simple, yet adds so much character to the look.

It seems as though my obsession with big, chunky sweaters is back. But did it ever really leave? The colours that Fujiwara has put into this sweater are stunning. I love the extra-chunky knit, high-contrast white that was used for the detailing of the sweater as well.

Last and DEFINITELY least... Enter the modern day Big Bird. It's comforting to know that even high fashion designers have their off days!

Sky Sailing

Owl City's Adam Young wasn't always the electro-pop mastermind that we've all come to know and love. Before Owl City, there was Sky Sailing. And now, Adam is returning to his roots, offering up a more acoustic sound. If you want a relaxing, down-tempo album to lull you to sleep on those hot summer days, An Airplane Carried Me To Bed, is an excellent choice. Why not give my favourite, Brielle, a listen!!

Oh Sushi Samba

My love for the illustrious POP icon that is Lindsay Lohan rages on... And this just in! Ms. Crackwhore herself was spotted rekindling the flame with her old lesbian-lover, Samantha Ronson. AND! Just when you thought the news couldn't get any juicier, they were spotted eating (eachother) out at a sushi restaurant in Beverly Hills. Lindsay, you really do make things just too easy!

In other(ish) news, Lindsay chose not to use Stuart Goldberg's services. According to TMZ, Mamma Lohan and Crackwhore Lohan decided that Mr. Goldberg was far too eccentric for them. My theory... The Twisted Sisters didn't like the fact that Goldberg believed in 'Mistakes'. In Mamma's delusional, crackpot mind, she has done everything right. Not a mistake has been made. And in Crackwhore's mine, she... Okay, I'm drawing a blank. I don't know what the hell is going on in that trainwreck's mind! It probably looks a lot like THIS!
