Paul Smith / Spring 2011 Collection

Paul Smith has always had amazing clothes. His use of colours with eccentric cuts brings an edginess to the fashion world, yet he still seems to maintain a traditional aesthetic. This collection is no exception. He seems to have everything from tie-dyed to drop-crotched pants. He also has some amazing jackets that show off Smith's own flare. I'm dying for each and every look from this collection.

Love love love!!! While tie-dye has never been my first choice, this top is brilliant! The scoop-neck is an excellent choice for summer, and the colours would be great for any day out in the sun. I really think that the tassel shoes bring the whole outfit together. With the casualness of the shirt and very casual jacket, it's always nice to have a more classic piece to finish the look off!

Again, the dropped-crotch pants. Here's a good way to wear the full pants as opposed to the shorts. You definitely need some height to pull these off, but rock it if you can!

There's been a lot of tucking the pants into a high pair of boots this Spring, and this look is a perfect example of how you'd do so in refine way. I love the cream colours that this outfit is using. A very soft blue is a great way to add some life to an outfit that would otherwise by all monotone.

There were so many amazing necklaces featured in this collection. I especially like the first one, with the separate chains and the triangles of various sizes. I've been looking for a simple silver necklace to add some spunk to my summer outfits, and these would be perfect. Unfortunately, doesn't look like these beauties have hit the market yet... Maybe they'll be around for mid-summer or the fall??

In the meantime, here is a lovely necklace by Mr. Smith. The Double Silver Bead Bracelet is available at Paul Smith's website for 80 pounds. That's about 125 Canadian Dollars.

Dior Homme / Spring 2011 Collection

Dior Homme... You had me at Starfleet Command. It's no secret that I'm a Trekkie (or Trekker), and with a reference to Star Trek in a collection's description I found myself instantly in love. Okay, so a lot of these pieces are probably not going to hit the streets for years and years to come, but one can dream, right??

The Trek inspiration is easy to see in this one. Solid colour throughout the outfit, cross-over lapel with only a smidge of detailing... I could totally see James Tiberius strutting his stuff around the Enterprise in this look! Too bad they didn't have this suit in J.J. Abrams movie... Chris Pine would have look dang shecksi in it!

Okay, so the next thing I'm going to say is going to a blasphemy on soooo many levels. Or at least the combination of words I'll be using in the same sentence will be... This is less Star Trek, and more Star Wars! I know. My fingers were burning as I typed that one one.... Anyways, this outfit screams Jedi Knight to me. I don't think I'd ever be caught dead in this outfit, except maybe on Halloween. I would, however, love marching around in those sandals. Gorg!

Again with the Jedi Knight theme. These two suits were probably rocked by Anakin Skywalker both post- and pre-conversion, respectively, to the Darkside. I think the grey dropped-crotch pants would be an easily converted to street-style look. Other than that, we may have to wait until we're in a galaxy far, far away to pull off the other looks. If you do decide to wear them before then, may the Force be with you!

Viktor & Rolf / Spring 2011 Collection

So... Apparently the look that Viktor Horsting and Rolf Snoeren were going for was 'clinical whimsy'. Now, I have to pause and ask myself... 'What the helllll is that?' Pictures come to my mind of a little green fairy skip to my lou'ing around in rainbow-coloured scrubs with a stethoscope around its neck, all while banging on the door to the bath houses. Which, let me tell you, is a lovely image. And so is this collection!

Some simple and dark monotones with some nice detail, completed with a pair of stand-outish shoes. Enough said! Although I have to mention the tie-belt-thing that's going on. Normally, I cringe at the idea! In this case, it really adds some character to the ensemble!

I can't say enough good things about this outfit. I have a bit of an obsession with cardigans, and this short sleeved one is no exception! I love how the colour's paired with the belt, and is divided by the patterned shirt. I'm not usually a fan of polka dots either, but I'm digging these ones.

It's always a pain to have to dress up in the summer. I usually end up wherever I'm going soaked in a pool of my own sweat. Heat + Suit = Hot Mess! Heat + Suit+ V&R = Hot!

I love the drop-crotch shorts featured in this outfit. I doubt my stubby legs would let me pull this look off, but for you taller folk... Rock it!

Canali / Menswear Spring 2011 Collection

Canali, Canali... Oh so chic! As we get older and begin to enter the 'professional' world, suits become more and more necessary. And as this occurs, our look needs to evolve. While I'm still an infant at heart, I haven't ventured into the world of suits yet. But when I do... Canali will be there to save the day!!
A lovely stray from the beaten path. The earthy tones of this suit are complimented very nicely by the simple patterns present. I love that the model isn't wearing a dress shirt either. Makes the look very refined, yet casual.

I'm dying over this colour. Been having a bit of a blue obsession this season, and this suit satiates that desire. Again, I love the more casual shirt underneath the jacket, and the contrast of colour between the two is exquisite. And don't get me started on that jacket. White jacket over blue suit. Hello!

Again with the blue. And this one has a nice pattern as well... A lovely last showing by Canali. The bag adds some more character to the look, and also more functionality.

While I'm on the topic of Canali, I might as well take this opportunity to mention my favourite fragrance... Which is by Canali. It's called Black Diamond, and it makes me warm inside!

Burberry Prorsum / Menswear 2011 Spring Collection

In my books... Christopher Bailey is a god! The looks that he pumps out under the label Burberry Prorsum are absolutely stunning. Although this collection may not have been as diverse as some of his previous collections, it still has some excellent pieces.

Let's start with this look.... Which is more or less all about the jacket and the bag--in true Burberry fashion. With peacoats, you can almost never go wrong. They're an essential piece in any wardrobe, and this one brings some personality to the table. The colour is very unique, and the cut is even uniquer. I love the placement of the pockets, zippers, and buttons. The placement is a little random-seeming, but it still has an elegance to it. LOVE LOVE LOVE! And the matching bag is a must have as well. Big and chunky, while still being chic and manageable. Win!

On its own, I'm not sure I'd be digging the jacket. But it pairs really well with the scoop-neck top, and the coloured pants really finish the look.

I'm not sure where my obsession with chunky sweaters came from, but I can't seem to shake it. Not only does the colour--which seems to have been featured in this collection--get me, but the chunky detailed stitching makes me get all warm and fuzzy inside. I think if I had this sweater, I'd forever be a happy man. I have to comment on the gum boots that he's rocking as well. THIS is how one wears gum boots.

Dsquared / Menswear Spring 2011 Collection

Today we saw a refreshing change from the twisted-sisters. After their Spring and Fall 2010 collections, I was ready to vote them off the island. With their Spring 2011 collection, however, Dean and Dan seem to have gotten their shiz together... Or maybe they finally stopped idolizing Blohan and got off the bad stuff.

Here's my favourite outfit from Milan. A lovely chunky sweater with some nice and simple shorts and sandals. When lost Dearest Ds, go back to the basics!

Here's a look from their Spring 2010 collection. Looks like their inspiration came from a progressively worse--from top to bottom--night out... They started the night off with a crisp and hipster look, got so drunk and forgot to pull their hiked-up underwear down, then threw up their lunch (shown by the lunch box), and then had to tromp through the self-induced hot mess, whilst cleaning it up and listening to Britney. Remember the basics, boys?

Gucci / Menswear Spring 2011 Collection

Yesterday, Gucci showed their Menswear Spring 2011 Collection in Milan. I'm absolutely in love. The colours, the cuts, the styles... Everything from the hair to the shoes is fantastic!!

This look is fantastic! Although maybe more appropriate for the winter, would still be fantastic for the weather that we've been having in Vancouver over the last few weeks. The cardigan that he's sporting is so amazing. The thick and chunky look really compliments the rest of the outfit, and the length makes the whole thing look a lot more relaxed. The sock-less look that he's sporting also adds to the relaxed feeling that the cardigan brings to the table, but the shoes add a dressy feel... Not to mention how the bag that he's rockin' compliments them!

Here's another fantastic cardigan look. The colours are fantastic, and I love that he's wearing them with shorts--which of course are rolled! And the sandals... Simple, yet dressy. High fashion that could be worn anywhere!

Here's a good example of adding some patterns to your outfit without overdoing it. They're also complimented by the colours from the rest of the outfit. Again, with the sandals that I'm totally digging, and a nice bag again!

And last, but definitely not least, a lovely showing of whites and nudes. Completed with a lovely bag, that's complimented by some aviators. I'm loving the new style of aviators that are being seen a lot more. The chunkiness of the rims adds a lot more edge to the look!

California Gurls

Okay okay! So Katy Perry is a bit of a mess and don't get me started on Snoop Dawwwg... In spite of these facts, I can't help but love this song. Is it wrong that I'm humming it to myself anywhere and everywhere ALL the time? Meh. So anyways, here are some remixes c/o my guilty pleasure. Manhattan Clique produces so many amazing remixes--usually of top billboard songs--which I'm very thankful. Passion Pit is fantastic. All the time! And MSTRKRFT finally produced a non-headache-inducing beat. It's actually a pleasure to listen to! Enjoy!

You Need A Ladder

Okay, so I may not be the biggest fan of Deadmau5, but I'm LOVING his newest single 'You Need A Ladder'. Or at least I'm LOVING the intro. Come on! The theme from the original Legend of Zelda... The one on the original Nintendo! Way too cool! Give it a listen below.

Phoenix has been in the radar for a while, which means that remixes of their songs are abundant. Abundant, but rarely good. Well, here's one of those rare moments! Enjoy

What Would Kelly Do. This week on The City, Whitney went to Miami to show her collection in the Gen Art Fresh Faces fashion show. While there, Whitney was faced with overwhelming odds and instead of crying, she stood tall and said, ‘We just can’t let Kelly down.’ She then hysterically threw some shit around, yelled at a few people, smacked a few bitches upside the head, and came out at the other end with a lovely showing of her collection. We need to all take a few pointers from Whitney. We all need to stop being such whiney little messes, and instead ask ourselves what the lovely Miss Cutrone would do!

Now comes Quotes by Kelly:

  • ‘What the fuck is the problem here? If you guys have a problem, take it outside. This is not group therapy!’
  • ‘We’re all hookers in one way or another.’
  • ‘Sometimes, I am hell on wheels. I’ve been doing this a really, really long time and I’m a for-profit company. I’m not a college professor. I’m thinking about opening a college! This is a joke. And I’ll start charging interns to work here.’
  • And my personal favourite… ‘I’m just not into [make-up]. The Bravo shot of me on the couch? It looks like I had sex with Heather Locklear and five margaritas.’

Honestly, is there any situation this power-hungry goddess can’t get out of, or into for that matter. People call her a bitch?? I couldn't agree less! If anything, she is just doing her job. And doing it just as well, if not better, than a man could. And we alllllll know that if she were a man, we'd spend less time calling her a bitch, and more time chasing after her trying to see if there were anything more we could do for her, all while trying to compare our dick size to hers. She'd win. I think that we all need to take a few pointers from Miss Cutrone and say it like we mean it.

So the next time an ice cream truck is cruising its ass by outside and you pause to think about whether or not it's a good idea to run after it or not, think about something that's a tad more productive. What Would Kelly Do.

iPhone 4: My new, illegitimate, love-child with Apple.

Is there a better way to begin a multimedia blog than blogging about Apple’s new, up-and-coming iPhone 4? Hhhhhheck no! A couple of weeks ago, Apple announced the US release date for it’s newest baby. Although that may give us Canadians anxiety attacks, knowing that there will be millions of people walking around the street with their new bling before us, it still gives us something to nerd-out over.

Let’s face it. The original iPhone, and even the 3G and 3GS models—although refreshingly simple to use—were lacking in some very key components. I’ve had the 3G model for almost two years now and have been quite content with it. I have to say though… No video recording capability, Apple? Come on! And what’s the deal with not having a flash on the back? It’s safe to say that the camera is useless! Perfect lighting is required to get a clear image, and you need the hands of a surgeon to hold the phone perfectly still to capture the image you intended! With the iPhone 4, however, this problem is obsolete. Not only does the phone come with a 5.0 megapixel (which is pretty freaking good for a camera phone!), but an LCD flash is also present, and so is the capability to record video. AND with iMovie (available in the Apps store), video editing is possible without ever having to upload your newly recorded video to your computer. There’s also fun features like auto-focus and tap-to-focus.

I like taking self-portraits of myself, be it from my webcam, to my digital camera, to my phone… That being said, not only do I look like a tool while trying to twist my phone around so that I can get myself right in the center of the photo, but I also rarely do manage to get myself in the center of the photo. And the look on my face is usually one of frustration, disgust, or constipation. Enter iPhone 4. Problem solved! With its conveniently located front-facing VGA (that’s nerd for awesome!) camera, I can take a photo of myself without anyone knowing I’m doing so. AND I can even have a video call with my bffs. So when I’m getting ready for a night on the town and my personal stylist is 350 km away, I can call her up and get her opinion about my ensemble in seconds—provided that she too, has an iPhone 4.

Trying to listen to internet radio, while trying to simultaneously text, email, and check facebook on the iPhone? Frustrating, time-consuming, impossible! Not anymore. Multi-tasking will finally let me fully attend to my ADD habits, so that I can do more things, all-at-once, all-right-now! If I want to play Final Fantasy, while checking my emails, while telling everyone that I’m playing Final Fantasy while checking my emails on facebook, all on my iPhone 4, I reserve the right to do so! And I reserve the right to do so without waiting a lifetime for various Apps to load!

After much consideration, it appears as though my baby is all grown up! Now, if only it could learn to read Flash! Maybe the iPhone 4T (for thuper) will sport this capability.
